2022 Merlot
Tasting Notes: Our 2022 Dark Horse Merlot is a medium-bodied, well-integrated red wine. Layers of dark cherry meld with rich blackberry on the palate with a touch of blue violet. The tannins are silky and perfectly balanced, revealing notes of toasted almonds, mocha and a hint of cinnamon on the long, decadent finish.
Viticulture Notes: The 2022 growing season was warmer than normal with average crop yields. When temperatures increased in August, ripening quickened and hastened harvest. Harvest produced yields of slightly smaller clusters with beautifully developed flavor concentration.
Winemaking Notes: To make this wine, we used warm fermentation at temperatures between 88⁰ and 92⁰F to create intense flavors, rich color and silky tannins. After fermentation, the wine was aged to add layers of complexity and balance.
